1-3/4″MINI DRILL PRESS QUILL SPRING ASSEMBLY

$ 6.94

I’ve two small drill presses that I use frequently and both of them ended up with busted quill springs. I was glad to be able to find suitable replacements, as I really didn’t want to have to replace the drill presses. These were easily installed. Just remove the two nuts holding the spring assembly in place and then remove the old assembly. The old assembly has a backing plate that the replacement doesn’t so I reused that plate with the new assembly. Then slide the assembly over the spindle. To preload the spring, I would rotate the assembly a 1/4 turn until the tab on the drill press housing fit into the next notch on the spring assembly. I would continue 1/4 turns until the quill would stay fully up. Then thread on one of the retaining nuts, but only slightly snug against the side of the spring assembly. Then thread on the 2nd nut and tighten the two together nuts together. These do rotate as you bring the quill down and then back up, so you don’t want to tighten them down hard on the spring assembly. So far, these are working as expected.
